When your heart beats, it pumps blood round your body and this gives it energy and oxygen. As the blood circulates, it pushes against the sides of the blood vessels. The strength of this pushing is your blood pressure. High blood pressure (hypertension) puts extra strain on your heart and arteries and low blood pressure (hypotension) can restrict the blood flow to your brain and other organs and result in fainting, or dizziness.
