Rhinitis means that the mucous membrane inside the nose is irritated and inflamed resulting in a stuffy and runny nose. The most common form of rhinitis is allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis causes a stuffy runny nose, sneezing, and itching, coughing, and watery, red and itchy eyes. Grass pollen is the most common allergen, and allergic rhinitis which comes on during certain seasons describes hay fever.
